To conclude our second chapter, we thought it was important to address a topic Jana shared with Barbara during the photoshoot.

Our goal is to offer encouragement to other mothers facing the same challenges.

breastfeeding in public

“I’d like to add one thing specific to Dubai. Moms often need to breastfeed in public and that can be very challenging especially here where you’re expected to cover yourself and be discreet about it.

I once decided to breastfeed my baby during her doctors check up (to stop her from screaming and hear the doctor). I didn’t use the cover since I thought a doctor would be ok seeing a mom breastfeed. Well his shocked look prove me otherwise. He actually told me I should get a cover.

It saddened me and made me feel ashamed. Breastfeeding a baby under the nursing cover is challenging, it gets hot, some babies hate it and you feel it puts you in the spotlight. The nursing rooms in malls are often dirty or far and at some places not available at all.

I think that’s one of the reasons moms rather switch to a bottle when out. So just a word of encouragement to all the moms sweating under the cover with a kicking baby. You’re doing great ❤️ ”
